I think God is actually Love.
I think Christians, for decades, have had a warped sense of the meaning of "love". We've convinced ourselves that God's love is a love that can feel like punishment, or judgement, or exclusion, or even hate. And in all of scriptures, and all of my conversations with God, I just can't find that to be true.
I don't think you can say "your family isn't welcome to be members here" and call it love. I don't think you can say "what you believe is wrong", especially to someone you don't have a relationship with, and call it love. I don't think you can say "I won't photograph your wedding because of who you're marrying" and call it love. I don't think you can say "your behavior is going to send you to hell" and call it love.
Love is not tricky, it is not difficult to understand. Love doesn’t ever feel like not love. If love feels like anything but goodness, acceptance, tenderness, warmth, invitation, safety, comfort, affection, or pleasure; then I don't think it's love.
I think God is actually love.
Full stop.
